This professional learning session is designed specifically for middle school and K-8 administrators to deepen their understanding of content alignment within 6-8 Social Studies classrooms. Participants will explore key components of content alignment, including standards-based instruction, curriculum fidelity, and the alignment of tasks, texts, and assessments to learning goals.

The session will feature:

  • Interactive Learning: Collaborative discussions on best practices for observing and supporting rigorous, aligned instruction in Social Studies.

  • Framework Application: Tools and strategies for identifying alignment during classroom observations, with a focus on SPARK, historical thinking skills, primary/secondary sources, and civics benchmarks.

  • Classroom Walkthroughs: Guided walkthroughs of 6-8 Social Studies classrooms with an emphasis on recognizing strong instructional alignment and providing actionable feedback to teachers.

By the end of this session, participants will have the knowledge and tools to support and ensure high-quality, aligned Social Studies instruction in their schools, fostering improved civic knowledge, historical literacy, and critical thinking skills for all students.
