This course requires daily access to at least 1 or more students, for creating, implementing, & reflecting on a two-week, Phonics unit.
**There is a required virtual meeting scheduled on Monday, February 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00pm. ** Two other virtual meetings are required on Februrary 9th and February 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00.
This orientation will provide login instructions, course assignments and timelines/due dates. All course requirements will be completed independently within the PLA platform. The deadline to submit all assignments is May 8th. There is no end of course meeting. The link for the orientation will be emailed a week prior. The Exploring Structured Literacy course is comprised of six units of study exploring the foundational information of literacy learning in the state of Florida and the six components of structured literacy: phonology, sound/symbol correspondences and syllables, morphology, syntax, and semantics. The primary focus of the course content and assessment tasks is demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the components of structured literacy and pedagogy that are explicit, systematic, sequential, and multisensory for students with persistent reading difficulties and/or characteristics of dyslexia. This course meets the Explicit Reading Instruction renewal requirements.
