Course Description
 More Details

Critical to the contemporary classroom learning environment is the skill-set to leverage generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for teaching and learning in the Science/STEM classroom. Per Haseski (2019), an understanding of AI among teachers has been permeated by perspectives grounded in fear and resistance, as influenced by propaganda and media coverage. Further, research indicates that k-12 schools seek expertise and professional development from external agencies, rather than relying on teacher education programs or curriculum documents (Dai et al., 2022; Haseski, 2019; Tseng et al., 2021; Vartiainen et al., 2020). Science and STEM teachers, however, must be supported to conceptualize ways AI can lead them to assess and support learners’ needs in innovative ways, monitor student development, inform them of needed targeted instruction, and bring science learning to life through meaningful and interactive experiences that are personalized. This workshop supports teachers to develop skills for using AI-powered edtech tools. The workshop teaches ways educators can leverage the technology to differentiate for individualized learning, improve their productivity and efficiency, create content, develop formative and summative assessments, develop learners’ content knowledge, generate modifications for individual learning plans, ensure access for ESL/ESOL/ELL students,  collaborate, communicate, and apply technology in their classroom. Specifically, the presenters will interactively engage science teachers with AI platforms and encourage those in attendance to explore AI in real time and incorporate them into their science classrooms. A variety of AI platforms to support Science and STEM teachers will be explored.
